ChemInform Abstract

Single crystals of the title substance are obtained from intimate mixtures of BaCO3, SrCO3, Sc2O3, and In2O3 (2:4:1:1.5) by using the CO2 laser technique. It crystallizes in the tetragonal system (I4/mmm, Z = 2). The compound is isotypic with Ba3In2O6 and the phases Ln2-xSr1+ xCu2O6-x/2. BaSr2ScInO6 is the first compound with Sc coordinated by tetragonal pyramids of oxygen.
