The selena-germabicyclooctene (IIIb) on reaction with DDQ gives the expected selenophene derivative. The nature of compounds formed in the oxidation of (IIIa) with m-chloroperbenzoic acid depends on the experimental conditions. If (IIIa) is reacted wtih MCPBA in equimolecular amounts in Et2O at 0 °C, the expected sulfoxide (V) is formed together with some sulfone (VI).
