ChemInform Abstract

The pentanuclear title clusters (III) are obtained as shown. The stepwise synthesis of the pentanuclear AuAg cluster (VI) from (IV) using an excess of the linear polymeric acetylides (II) and (V) is described. The structures of the pentanuclear clusters are discussed on the basis of spectral (NMR, IR) data. Depending on the molar ratio of the reactants, the reaction of (PPN)(Cu(C≡CPh)2) and (AuCu(C≡CPh)2)n affords the cluster (VII) and (VIII) (yield 72/49%). However, the reaction of (PPN)(Cu(C≡CPh)2) with (AuAg(C≡CPh)2)n gives the pentanuclear AuAg title cluster (VI) (61%) together with the trimetallic complex (IX) (15%), while with (PPN)(Ag(C≡CPh)2) only the AuAg title cluster (VI) (64%) is obtained.
