ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of Chiral Atropoisomeric Square-Planar Nickel(II) and Copper(II) Complexes Formed by Macrocyclic Ligands Containing Pendant Polyether Groups and a Quaternary Ammonium Group.
Abstract
The novel Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes (IVa) and (IVb) (yield 82/60%) and a Ni analogue of (IVb) containing the polyether group O(CH2CH2O)3Me are synthesized as shown for the example (IVa).
ChemInform Abstract
The novel Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes (IVa) and (IVb) (yield 82/60%) and a Ni analogue of (IVb) containing the polyether group O(CH2CH2O)3Me are synthesized as shown for the example (IVa). 1H NMR studies confirm that all the complexes exist as a diastereomeric mixture. In one case ((IVa)) separation of atropisomeric chiral complexes is achieved by preparative chromatography of SiO2. Quaternization of the p-aminophenyl-substituted compounds such as (IVb) with an excess of MeI (V) affords the chiral compounds of the type (IVc) possessing a positively charged quaternary ammonium group and polyether podands in addition to a weakly electrophilic metal site. The preparations of the starting compounds (I) and (II) and their analogues are described.
