Abstract

The 6-chloro-1,3,5-triazines (I) react with potassium or cuprous cyanide (II) to form the 6-cyano-1,3,5-triazines (III).

ChemInform Abstract

The 6-chloro-1,3,5-triazines (I) react with potassium or cuprous cyanide (II) to form the 6-cyano-1,3,5-triazines (III). Similar treatment of 2,4-dimethoxy-6-chloro-1,3,5-triazine (IV) with potassium cyanide (II), however, gives the trimethylisocyanurate (V) together with the triazine derivatives (VI) and (VII). Treatment of (IIIa) with aniline (VIII) and AlCl3 leads to the formation of the amidinium salt (IX) which gives the 2-triazinylbenzimidazole derivative (X) upon oxidative cyclization with sodium hypochlorite. Reaction of (IIIa) with sodium azide (XI) produces the tetrazole (XII). Additional reactions are described in the original paper. (Mechanism).
