Abstract

Cyclocondensation reaction of the indole-2,3-diones (I) with thiosemicarbazide (II) gives the tricyclic compounds (III) which are converted to the hydrazino derivatives (V).

ChemInform Abstract

Cyclocondensation reaction of the indole-2,3-diones (I) with thiosemicarbazide (II) gives the tricyclic compounds (III) which are converted to the hydrazino derivatives (V). These are cyclized with carbon disulfide (VI), forming the tetracyclic heterocycles (VII) mentioned in the title. Methylation of (VIIa) results in the formation of the monomethyl compound (VIIb), the dimethyl derivative (IX), and the quaternization product (X). The compounds (VII) - (X) are screened for their antibacterial activity.
