Abstract

Coupling reaction of anthrone (I) with the 1,3-dithiolium tetrafluoroborates (II) yields the semiquinones (III) which are coupled with the phosphonates (IV) or (VI) in the presence of butyllithium to give the anthracenediylidenebisdithioles (V) or the analogous selenatrithiafulvalenes (VII).

ChemInform Abstract

Coupling reaction of anthrone (I) with the 1,3-dithiolium tetrafluoroborates (II) yields the semiquinones (III) which are coupled with the phosphonates (IV) or (VI) in the presence of butyllithium to give the anthracenediylidenebisdithioles (V) or the analogous selenatrithiafulvalenes (VII). The tetrathiafulvalene (IX) is prepared from (IIb) and (IVb) via elimination reaction of the intermediate phosphonate (VIII). (Cyclic voltammetric data).
