Abstract
The aldehydes (I) are coupled with the α-bromo ketones (II) in the presence of metallic zinc to produce the β-hydroxy ketones (III).

The aldehydes (I) are coupled with the α-bromo ketones (II) in the presence of metallic zinc to produce the β-hydroxy ketones (III). This reaction also succeeds, when metallic tin or chloro ketones are employed. Further examples are given in the original paper. (Intermediates).
