ChemInform Abstract: Spectroscopic Studies of the Photochromic Molecule N-(2-Hydroxybenzylidene)aniline and Its Photoproduct.

ChemInform Abstract

Results of IR, Raman, resonance Raman, 1H FT-NMR and COSY spectroscopic studies indicate the photoproduct of anil (II) in the solid state to have a trans-quinoid structure (I), while in polar hydrogen-bonding solvents (MeOH, CF3-CH2-OH, CF3-CHOH-CF3) the zwitterionic form (III) is generated.
