Abstract

In course of optimizations of the crystal growth of ZrSiO4(V) and ZrSiO4(Ln) from oxidic melts, the best results with respect to crystal quality and concentration of the coloring dopants are attained by growing from LiVO3/V2O5 or V2O5 melts in the case of ZrSiO4(V) and MoO3 melts (containing Ln2O3 in excess) for ZrSiO4(Ln).

ChemInform Abstract

In course of optimizations of the crystal growth of ZrSiO4(V) and ZrSiO4(Ln) from oxidic melts, the best results with respect to crystal quality and concentration of the coloring dopants are attained by growing from LiVO3/V2O5 or V2O5 melts in the case of ZrSiO4(V) and MoO3 melts (containing Ln2O3 in excess) for ZrSiO4(Ln). The dopants are found to be homogeneously distributed (microprobe analysis) and single-crystal XRD investigations indicate that V occupies strongly distorted tetrahedral interstitial lattice sites, while Ln (demonstrated for Tb) substitute Zr atoms.
