ChemInform Abstract

are investigated using a spectrophotometric method. In addition to the vapor-phase species CuCl2, Cu3Cl3, and Cl2, which are unambiguously identified, indications of the presence of Cu2Cl4, KCuCl3, and a Cu-La-Cl complex are obtained. The Cl2 pressure has a maximum corresponding approximately to the molar ratio Cu/K/La ≈ 50/35/15. This variation of the Cl2 vapor pressure may be understood from a Lewis acid-base concept.
