Abstract

A variety of title compounds such as (VII) are prepared as shown for (VIIa) via cyclization of a masked 1,3-dicarbonyl derivative such as (V).

A variety of title compounds such as (VII) are prepared as shown for (VIIa) via cyclization of a masked 1,3-dicarbonyl derivative such as (V). The pyrimidinyl analogues, substituted with a 2-amino or 2-aminomethyl group, are the only compounds with substantial antibacterial activity.
