Abstract
10-Substituted-9-acridanones such as (IV) are readily prepared by the reaction of the isatoic anhydride (I) with 2-cyclohexenone (II) and subsequent aromatization.

10-Substituted-9-acridanones such as (IV) are readily prepared by the reaction of the isatoic anhydride (I) with 2-cyclohexenone (II) and subsequent aromatization. Two alkaloids, i.e. 1,2,3-trimethoxy-10-methylacridone (VIIIa) and evoxanthine (VIIIb), are prepared by this method.
