Abstract
The title compound (II), which can be used as an appropriate starting material in the synthesis of different bicyclic heterocycles, is readily obtained from thiosemicarbazide (I) or its ether (III) by the methods A) or B), respectively.

The title compound (II), which can be used as an appropriate starting material in the synthesis of different bicyclic heterocycles, is readily obtained from thiosemicarbazide (I) or its ether (III) by the methods A) or B), respectively. N-4-Arylidene derivatives of (II), e.g. (V), can be prepared either by arylation of (II) or, more efficiently, by one of the methods shown, starting from the known compounds (VI) or (VII), respectively.
