Abstract
The reaction between the benzopyrans (I) or (IV) and the phosphorane (II) represents a novel, convenient approach to the title compounds (III) and (V) which are of interest because of their possible physiological activities.

The reaction between the benzopyrans (I) or (IV) and the phosphorane (II) represents a novel, convenient approach to the title compounds (III) and (V) which are of interest because of their possible physiological activities. Alternatively, (III) and (V) are prepared via Pechmann condensation as is shown for the example (Va).
