Abstract

Thermolysis of the bicyclo(2.2.2)octene-trans-dicarboxylic acids (III), (VII), and (VIII) gives mixtures of exo- and endo-anhydrides as shown in the reaction scheme.

ChemInform Abstract

Thermolysis of the bicyclo(2.2.2)octene-trans-dicarboxylic acids (III), (VII), and (VIII) gives mixtures of exo- and endo-anhydrides as shown in the reaction scheme. In contrast, heating of bicyclo(3.2.2)non-5-ene-trans-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (XI) leads only to the formation of the endo-anhydride (XII). The pyrolysis of 7,8-dideutero derivatives of (III) is also investigated.
