Abstract

Pyrolysis of a solution of the benzyne precursor (I) in excess thiophene (II) gives a mixture of the products (III) - (XIV).

ChemInform Abstract

Pyrolysis of a solution of the benzyne precursor (I) in excess thiophene (II) gives a mixture of the products (III) - (XIV). The isomeric diaryliodonium carboxylates (XV) and (XIX) react with 3-methylthiophene (XVI) to yield the same mixture of the dimethylnaphthalenes (XVII) and (XVIII). The reaction of thiophene (II) with the dehydrobenzene precursors (XX) - (XXIV) is also investigated.
