ChemInform Abstract
Hydrated Ru trichloride reacts with DMSO at 70-80 °C to give the chloride-bridged dimeric complex (I), in the presence of conc. HCl at 130-140 °C or ca. 85 °C to produce the mer- (II) and the fac-complex (III), respectively. In the fac isomer, the DMSO ligands are all S-bonded whereas the mer isomer and the dimer have both S- and O-bonded DMSO. These three DMSO complexes are reacted with P, As, S, N,and O donor ligands leading to partial or complete substitution of DMSO molecules, depending on nature of the incoming ligand and reaction conditions. P, As, and S donor ligands give complete substitution. N and O donor ligands generally give partial substitution. The substitution products such as (IV)-(VII) are described and characterized (no yields given).
