ChemInform Abstract

The new binucleating ligand (IV) is prepared in two steps with an overall yield of 15%. It was expected that its dicopper complexes would show a strong antiferromagnetic coupling and exchange two electrons at positive potentials, two properties exhibited by the polyphenol oxidases. The copper complexes (V) and (VI) (yields not given), obtained by reaction of (IV), ionized with a base (NEt3, KOH or NaN3), in MeOH with appropriated Cu(II) salts, have different structures despite of their chemical similarity. (V) crystallizes in Pna21 with Z=4, (VIa) in Fdd2 with Z = 8 and (VIb) in Pbcn with Z=4.
