Abstract

The 3-acetoxy-4-haloxanthones (I) react with the cuprous salt (II) of an O-protected butynol, yielding the furanoxanthone (III).

ChemInform Abstract

The 3-acetoxy-4-haloxanthones (I) react with the cuprous salt (II) of an O-protected butynol, yielding the furanoxanthone (III). Similarly, the 1-bromo-2-hydroxyxanthone (IV) is converted to the furano-fused derivatives (V) and (VI). (Yields given in g).
