ChemInform Abstract

The kinetics of the addition reactions of the radicals (II) and (VII) (ranging from electrophilic (IIa) to nucleophilic (VII)) to styrenes of type (III) are determined. In addition reactions of the radicals (IIb) and (IIc) (which are on the borderline between nucleophilic and electrophilic behavior), polar effects of both electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents at the alkene (III) increase the rates. The kinetics of the addition reactions of radicals (IIb) and (VII) with styrenes (X) are measured as well.
