Abstract

The Diels-Alder cycloadducts (I) of benzoquinone and 1,3-cycloalkadienes are reduced and then converted to the benzobicycloalkadienes (III) by treatment with phosphoryl chloride in pyridine.

The Diels-Alder cycloadducts (I) of benzoquinone and 1,3-cycloalkadienes are reduced and then converted to the benzobicycloalkadienes (III) by treatment with phosphoryl chloride in pyridine. The 1,4-dimethoxy derivatives (V) are obtained from (I) by alkylation with methyl iodide (IV). The 1,4-diacetoxy derivatives (VII) are formed by reaction of (I) with acetic anhydride (VI).
