ChemInform Abstract

The aim of high resolution 1H NMR measurements of the ternary title system is to study the electronic structure of the b.c.c. system and to compare the properties of this system with those of the Nb-Ti-H system. In addition to 1H NMR measurements at T = 160 °C temp.-dependent measurements of these properties are carried out for x = 0.0 and 0.1 within a temp. range of about 150 K in the α-phase of the alloys. χM only depends on the valence electron concentration whereas KH is strongly influenced by the Ti atoms and in contrast to χM cannot be interpreted in the frame of the rigid band model. χ(T) and KH(T) suggest that the Ti-3d wave functions produce a negative hyperfine field at the proton sites which differs in sign from that of Ta-5d wave. Between the Ta and Nb systems pronounced similarities are observed.
