ChemInform Abstract

The Cr complex (V), prepared from Cr(CO)6 and (II) via LCr(CO)3 (75-85% yield) reacts in two steps to yield (Ie), which is also prepared by the method applied for (Ia) to (Id). (Ia) and (Ib) crystallize in the space group P1 with Z=4, all the complexes (I) are isostructural. Variable-temp. (4-300 K) magnetic measurements indicate that the spins of Cr(III) and M(II) or Cr(III) are weakly antiferromagnetically coupled. The electronic spectra, measured in solution and in the solid state, are very similar. Redox potentials for the couples Cr(III)-M(III)/Cr(III)-M(II) are determined for (Ia)-(Ic) from their quasi-reversible cyclic voltammograms in MeCN.
