ChemInform Abstract

The previously reported formation of the products (IV)-(VIII) from a mixture of the nitronate (I) and trityl chloride (II) in toluene is now attributed to the initial formation of the title compound (III) at -20 °C and its dissociation at 5 °C. The products are identified by a series of trapping and fragmentation experiments (yields are only given for (V) and (VI)).
