Abstract

Lithium diphenylcuprate (II) reacts with azobenzene (I) to give a dimetallic species which is hydrolyzed to form hydrazobenzene (III) and biphenyl (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

Lithium diphenylcuprate (II) reacts with azobenzene (I) to give a dimetallic species which is hydrolyzed to form hydrazobenzene (III) and biphenyl (IV). Benzoylation of the same intermediate yields dibenzoylhydrazine (VI). Magnesium diphenylcuprate (VII) reduces azoxybenzene (VIII) to give azobenzene (I) and (IV), whereas (VII) does not react with the Schiff bases (IX).
