Abstract

The bromohydrin (I) is carbonylated in the presence of a chiral cobalt catalyst, yielding the optically active carbonate (III), oxirane (IV), and the regioisomeric bromohydrin (V).

ChemInform Abstract

The bromohydrin (I) is carbonylated in the presence of a chiral cobalt catalyst, yielding the optically active carbonate (III), oxirane (IV), and the regioisomeric bromohydrin (V). The reaction is investigated under various conditions, e.g. elevated CO2-pressure increases the amount of (III) formed.
