ChemInform Abstract
The title bromide, prepared by metallothermic reduction of PrBr3 with Li (molar ratio 1:1, 850 °C, sealed Ta container), crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/m, Z=2. Its structure contains two crystallographically independent Pr atoms, surrounded by mono- and bicapped trigonal prisms of Br-, respectively. Therefore, it has to be formulated as (Pr3+)2(Br-)5e- and should be metallic. Pr2Br5 is isostructural with Pr2I5 and is believed to be identical with PrBr2.38 reported for the Pr/PrBr3 system.
