Abstract

The mixed-valence Cu(I)-Cu(II) linear-chain salt obtained as a byproduct of crystal growth of single crystals of Et4NCu4Cl12 (a repeatable synthetic scheme is not yet worked out), crystallizes in the tetragonal system, space group P4/ncc with Z=4.

ChemInform Abstract

The mixed-valence Cu(I)-Cu(II) linear-chain salt obtained as a byproduct of crystal growth of single crystals of Et4NCu4Cl12 (a repeatable synthetic scheme is not yet worked out), crystallizes in the tetragonal system, space group P4/ncc with Z=4. Structurally it is clear that Cu(I) and Cu(II) ions are localized at distinctly different sites. One Cu has S4 site symmetry with distances and anglesconsistent with expectations for four-coordinate Cu(I). The other Cu has D2 site symmetry.
