Abstract

The amidines (II) are coupled with the aldehydes (I), producing the hydroxytetrahydropyrimidines (III).

The amidines (II) are coupled with the aldehydes (I), producing the hydroxytetrahydropyrimidines (III). (IIIa) - (IIIc) are dehydrated to form the dihydropyrimidines (IV). Oxidation of (IVc) gives the pyrimidine (V).
