Abstract

Treatment of the vinyldioxolanes (I) and (III) with Lewis acids results in ring-enlargement, forming the oxocycloheptatetrahydrofurans (II) and (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

Treatment of the vinyldioxolanes (I) and (III) with Lewis acids results in ring-enlargement, forming the oxocycloheptatetrahydrofurans (II) and (IV). The oxocyclohexatetrahydrofuran (VI) is prepared from (V) by the same method. The tetrahydrofurans (IIa) (R4: -Me) and (XI) are also obtained by reaction of the vinylic trans-cycloalkane-1,2-diols (VII) and (IX) with the aldehydes (VIII) or (X).
