Abstract

The calix(4)arenes (XI) mentioned in the title are prepared from the o-bromophenol (I) and the phenols (IV) and (VII) as shown in the reaction scheme.

The calix(4)arenes (XI) mentioned in the title are prepared from the o-bromophenol (I) and the phenols (IV) and (VII) as shown in the reaction scheme. The linear trimer (IXc) undergoes cyclocondensation with the bis(bromomethyl)phenols (X) in the presence of TiCl4 to give (XI). The synthesis of some other derivatives of (XI) is described in the original paper.
