Abstract

Single crystals of Rb0.5P8W8O40 are obtained by preannealing a mixture of Rb2CO3, (NH4)2HPO4, and WO3 to decompose the carbonate and phosphate (873 K) and subsequent addition of metallic tungsten to obtain a stoichiometric mixture which is then annealed at 1173 K for 5 d. The compound crystallizes in space group Ccm21.

ChemInform Abstract

Single crystals of Rb0.5P8W8O40 are obtained by preannealing a mixture of Rb2CO3, (NH4)2HPO4, and WO3 to decompose the carbonate and phosphate (873 K) and subsequent addition of metallic tungsten to obtain a stoichiometric mixture which is then annealed at 1173 K for 5 d. The compound crystallizes in space group Ccm21. The different behavior of Rb+ and Cs+ in the octagonal tunnels of this compound and of CsP8W8O40, resp., is discussed.
