The ethylthioisoindolinium salts (IV) are prepared from the phthalimidines (I) via the thiophthalimidines (II).

The ethylthioisoindolinium salts (IV) are prepared from the phthalimidines (I) via the thiophthalimidines (II). (IVa) is treated with various nucleophiles to form the corresponding derivatives (Va), (VIa), (IXa), and (XIa).
