Abstract

1,2-Diphenylphosphinoethane (I) is coupled with the isomeric 1,4-dichloro-2-butenes (II) to give the tetraphosphonium salt (III) which is hydrogenated, yielding the saturated system (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

1,2-Diphenylphosphinoethane (I) is coupled with the isomeric 1,4-dichloro-2-butenes (II) to give the tetraphosphonium salt (III) which is hydrogenated, yielding the saturated system (IV). Hydrolysis of (III) and (IV) produces the phosphinoxides (V) or (VII) and the phosphines (VI).
