The previously prepared complex (I) (space group PT, Z=2) and [(MeHg)2(adenine)]NO3 were dissolved in hot water.

The previously prepared complex (I) (space group PT, Z=2) and [(MeHg)2(adenine)]NO3 were dissolved in hot water. From the cooled mixture crystals of the title compound (II) (88% yield) were obtained. (II) crystallizes in the space group P21/c with Z=4. NMR spectra indicate that the complexes exchange their stoichiometries rapidly on the NMR time scale. In addition, the MeHg+ cations are shuffled among the five unequivalent coordination sites.
