Abstract
The title compound (XIIa) (= A, yield given in mg) and (XIIb) ( = B), constituents of Jatropha gossypiifolia L., can be obtained in an efficient manner following the pathway shown in the scheme.

The title compound (XIIa) (= A, yield given in mg) and (XIIb) ( = B), constituents of Jatropha gossypiifolia L., can be obtained in an efficient manner following the pathway shown in the scheme. Further results for the synthesis of (XII) using a furan system related to (IV) are also described.
