Abstract

The interaction of (II) with HCl gives the eight-coordinate Cr(IV) species (I) (the only other eight-coordinate Cr(IV) species (III) has been characterized previously), whereas CF3COOH gives (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

The interaction of (II) with HCl gives the eight-coordinate Cr(IV) species (I) (the only other eight-coordinate Cr(IV) species (III) has been characterized previously), whereas CF3COOH gives (IV). Protonation of (II) with CF3SO3H in MeCN or EtCN leads to the Cr(II) complex (V). The reaction of (II), (I), or (VII) with MeI or I2 yields trans-Cr(III) Compounds (VI) or (VIII). A seven-coordinate trans-Cr(O) complex (XI) (the location of H is discussed) is obtained by treatment of (IX) with CF3SO3H, while treatment of (IX) with one equiv. of AgSO3CF3 yields the Cr(I) complex (X). X-Ray structures of the following compounds have been determined: (IV) crystallizes in the space group P4n2 with Z=2, (Va) in the space group PI, Z=2, (Vb) in the space group P21/c, Z=2, (VIIIb) in the space group C2/c, Z=4, (X) in the space group P21/c, Z=4, and (XIb) in the space group P21/n with Z=4.
