ChemInform Abstract

The series of title complexes is examined by means of Mößbauer and NMR spectra together with an X-ray structure analysis of the dication (I) (space group Pbca with Z=8). The Fe4S5 core structure is retained as in the monocation. More substandial are the "variations observed in the bonding Fe-Fe interactions. The successive reduction (or oxidation) steps produce significant structural changes at the four-coordinated Fe sites but not at the five-coordinated Fe site. The studies provide evidence that the unpaired electron spin density is mostly localized on the sulfur Centers.
