ChemInform Abstract

The distribution coefficients, Kd, of Co" between Crystalline H2Ti4O9-nH2O fibers and aqueous solutions have been measured at various pH and six different temperatures. Kd is found to increase with increasing temperature. The adsorption behavior of Co" is explaincd in terms of ion exchange with hydrogen-ions in the fibers. Above 373 K, the layered structure of the fibers change to anatase or its precursor. Removal of Co(II) ions from cooling water is indispens- α-ble for safe operation in an atomic power plant.
