Introduction
On June 18-21, 2019, the 6th Ukrainian Congress for Cell Biology with international representation was held in the Carpathian resort Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine. The Congress was attended by near 150 participants from Ukraine and representatives from Poland, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, Sweden, United Kingdom and others. Due to courtesy of the Editor-in-Chief of Cell Biology International Prof. Sergio Schenkman, the Congress speakers had opportunity to publish their materials as the articles in the thematic issue of the journal entitled “Cell Biology, Cell and Metabolic Engineering in Central and Eastern Europe”. In total, 17 manuscripts have been submitted, 4 have been rejected after reviewing, one manuscript was withdrawn by authors and the rest 12 manuscripts have been accepted and published during 2010-2021. Published articles represent different aspects of studies in the fields of cell signaling, organelles, autophagy, plant cell biology and yeast metabolic engineering. They perfectly illustrate studies conducted in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the fields of cell biology and related disciplines. It should be noted that the level of research in this region of the world corresponds to high requirements of Cell Biology International. It permits to hope for high visibility and citation rates of the papers published in the current thematic issue.
Sincerely yours
