Anytime, Anywhere, Anyhow
Dear Readers, dear Authors, dear Reviewers,
One year has passed and ChemBioEng Reviews is already entering its second term. This gives us reason to look back on what we have accomplished, where we stand now, and on what the future may hold for us.
But first of all, let us express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has made this exciting venture possible! Thanks to all the authors whose valuable and compelling contributions formed the basis of our journal. Thanks to the many reviewers who dedicated their time to help us and our authors to improve the quality of our articles. Thanks to our Board members who joined our endeavor from all over the world and supported us with their expertise during the past year. Thanks to all our faithful readers, who came back month after month to learn and communicate innovative research. And last, but not least, thanks to all the members of the editorial team working tirelessly behind the scenes to make ChemBioEng Reviews the success it has been so far.
What did 2014 bring?
The journal's first year has seen a continuous improvement. We could publish six wonderful issues filled with a total of 20 articles. Residing on the intersection between chemical engineering and biotechnology, these reviews covered different areas of current biochemical and chemical engineering and technology, ranging from process development and optimization over separation technologies to sustainable production and renewable resources, just to name a few.
ChemBioEng Reviews has also been the first journal of Wiley-VCH's chemical engineering family to receive enhanced HTML coverage. Enhanced HTML, also known as the “Anywhere Article”, offers additional features that make the readers' experience interactive and more flexible. In contrast to the standard pdf document, chapters and references as well as contact information are now linked to allow direct access. It is even possible to download the figures into a PowerPoint presentation. But the biggest advantage is no doubt the availability and adaptability of the content to various end devices. The new design allows the inclined reader to access his favorite articles not only from his home computer or laptop, but also from his cell phone or tablet while travelling. This also makes it easier to share content and increase global visibility, be it through social networks or via websites and email.
And what is planned for 2015?
This year we will publish our first special issue. With the generous help of Prof. Rey-Ting Guo we have compiled contributions all centering on the field of “Enzymes”. In the April issue, authors will discuss interesting topics such as metabolic and protein engineering, thermostability and crystallization. We are also hoping to have more special issues available for you in the future. Therefore, we would like to encourage you to let us know of any potential topic you deem interesting and suitable for a special issue, or if you would be willing in assist with the organization of such an issue.
Additionally, the option for institutional customers to receive complimentary access to ChemBioEng Reviews that was available in 2014 has been extended throughout 2015. If you are interested in receiving free access, please visit our website (www.ChemBioEngRev.de) or talk to your librarian. Regardless of that, the first issue of the year is always freely available on Wiley Online Library for your reference.
If you miss a topic, please feel free to review it for us or suggest someone we could invite. We are always happy to receive input from you. Please do not hesitate to contact us anytime by email ([email protected]) or phone (+49(0)6201/606-178) with any suggestions, ideas, or questions you might have.
We are looking forward to your continuous support and submissions.
Happy 2015 to you all!
Yours sincerely,
Barbara Boeck Editor-in-Chief and Cordula Buse Associate Editor
