Criticalist - Westbury, NY: Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Westbury, one of the most established and recognizable specialty practices on Long Island, New York—and definitely the largest in Nassau County—is seeking a board certified or board-eligible Criticalist to join our 24-hour emergency/critical care and specialty referral practice.

VREC was originally established in 2003 in the current 12,000 sq. foot facility. During the past 11 years it has fostered an excellent relationship with referring veterinarians and is well known as the multi-service, 24-hour specialty practice of choice. At the time of its founding it was one of the largest and most forward-thinking specialty hospitals in the country. To maintain that reputation as a leader in the field, the facility will shortly be going through a massive renovation of 75% of the existing structure, cementing its reputation in the community as a state-of-the-art specialty practice.

Although we are proud of our equipment (4 slice CT, full endoscopic capabilities, minimally invasive surgical equipment, the only linear accelerator on Long Island, ultrasound, DR, RT, IH lab a hyperbaric chamber, underwater treadmill and tracheal & urethral stenting capabilities), we are even more proud of our cohesive and collaborative staff. We currently have 19 LVTs on staff with an additional 3 non-licensed Technicians. We believe in our staff and support their ongoing growth. As of today we have one Neurology-certified Tech, a Critical Care Technician about to sit for the exam, and a third about to start certification as a Surgical Technician.

At VCA we believe that postgraduate training is no longer limited to university settings and we love being able to offer progressive and cutting edge internship programs. VREC currently has an Internship class of four and we would expect any Specialist joining the team to participate in their education and hopefully also become a mentor for future growth and development.

An interest in helping the Interns is only one of our expectations. We want someone who will be part of the family. Many of the staff have been part of VREC a long time and consider this their second home. We would expect anyone joining the team to feel the same way in time and treat VREC as such. We would hope any new Specialist will nurture the compassionate care of patients, clients, and referring DVMs alike. We want a drama-free personality. We want someone who is fun, who enjoys to laugh and who is an all-round happy personality.

An established, multi-discipline, collaborative work environment in a soon-to-be-renovated, state-of-the-art facility. What else can one ask for? Oh yes—a great overnight ER service, a large and experienced team, a heavy case load, and support for your special interests. VREC Westbury has it all!

We offer competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including: Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage; Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance; 401(k) retirement savings plan; Continuing Education allowance; and Professional Liability Coverage. If interested in this opportunity, please e-mail resume and cover letter to Dr. Christina Moore, Recruiting & Professional Relations Director, at [email protected].

Ohio

Criticalist - Warrensville Heights, Ohio: VCA Great Lakes Veterinary Specialists, a 24-hour specialty practice and pillar of the Cleveland veterinary referral community for over 25 years, is currently looking for a second Criticalist to join the growing practice.

Originally founded as a single doctor practice, Great Lakes eventually grew to a small collection of specialists. It ultimately became a 24-hour ER facility and in November of 2013 moved to a custom designed 15,000 square foot facility and solidified its reputation as one of the premier specialty hospitals in Ohio.

The 2013 move into the massive, state-of-the-art, gorgeous facility finally enabled the multiple specialists to work in a beautiful surrounding while simultaneously enabling them to offer additional services. The building has 11 exam rooms, 3 surgical suites, an 8 slice CT, MRI next door, multiple O2 cages, incubators & ultrasounds, a lap tower and dedicated rooms for both chemotherapy and radiation iodine treatments. It would be tough to find a facility as well equipped and in as inviting a space as this one.

A beautiful building with excellent equipment means nothing without the accompanying staff. The hospital currently employs 12 doctors which includes 5 specialists in multiple disciplines and is looking to expand. Along with the existing specialists and emergency doctors, the hospital also has a very established and experienced support staff including 25 technicians of which 18 are licensed. And although every hospital has some drama, this really is a drama-free zone with a very collegial and familial feel. Yes, this is a hospital but everyone considers and treats it as home!

Having said that, the ideal Criticalist must also be a friendly, service oriented and convivial personality. The guiding principle of VCA Great Lakes is to provide the highest quality medicine but this can only be done by having the brightest and most capable people working as a cohesive, collaborative and unified team.

This particular position is available because of the hospital's rapid growth, very busy emergency department and the need for a second criticalist. What this means to you is that you will have the opportunity of entering an already thriving and busy practice with a large and existing referral base, a varied case load and the possibility of immediate financial success.

This opportunity is one that should seriously be considered. Positions at well established, busy, multi-discipline practices in a brand-spanking-new, drop-dead gorgeous building with an exceptional and plentiful staff do not become available every day. Add to that the fact that this is an actively growing practice, that it has all brand new equipment and the stability and strength of a network like VCA and this opportunity becomes even more unique. Throw in the fact that its located in an amazing city with tremendous outdoor activities as well as its big city appeal and you find yourself hard pressed to find an equivalent opportunity elsewhere.

If interested in this opportunity, please e-mail resume and cover letter to Dr. Jeni Waeltz, Recruiting & Professional Relations Director, at [email protected].

The Toughest Job You'll Ever Love: Internship-trained emergency doctors wanted at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS), a large and busy 24 hour emergency and specialty referral center located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The hospital is a 24,000 sq. ft. facility offering referral and emergency services to the RI, eastern CT, and southern MA areas. There is no general practice associated with the hospital. The opportunity to split time between the RI hospital and our satellite facility in Massachusetts is also available. The clinics are only 20 minutes apart.

The caseload at OSVS is high, and the cases challenging. This is a tremendous environment to continue learning and growing – but requires someone with a strong ER foundation. If interested, please contact Dr. Justine Johnson at [email protected].
