Abstract

The benzoyl, p–toluoyl, and p–aminobenzoyl derivatives of 4, 4′-diaminostilbene-3, 3′-and-2, 2′-sulphonic acid have been prepared. Their substantivities (under equilibrium adsorption conditions) and fluorescence intensities have been compared. The 3, 3′-derivatives have greater substantivity and, although this is not quite so marked, higher fluorescence intensity for the same amount adsorbed than the 2, 2′-derivatives.
