Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata celebrates its 60th anniversary
Graphical Abstract
60th anniversary
We are very pleased to announce that 2018 marks our 60th anniversary. Since its foundation in 1958, Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata (EEA) has taken an important position in the entomological scientific literature. It has published top-quality original research papers in the fields of experimental biology and ecology of insects and other terrestrial arthropods, with both fundamental and applied scopes. EEA is particularly well-known for its extensive post-acceptance manuscript editing.
Impact factor
The arena for scientific journals is dynamic and we have been trying to keep up with changing demands over the past years. Specifically, we have taken a number of measures to improve the impact factor of the journal, which has been fluctuating between 1.2 and 1.7, the past 10 years. We are now grouping papers by topic into ‘special sections’ or non-commissioned ‘special issues’ to increase their visibility. We have increased the number of mini-reviews and are aiming to publish at least one special issue by invitation each year. We continue to welcome any suggestions for reviews and special issues, and are encouraging authors to promote their own papers more via social media.
Special features of the 2018 volume
To celebrate our anniversary, we have changed the cover design of the journal. The traditional bright red cover will be black with red lettering during 2018 and instead of the traditional insect drawing, we will have a color photo on the cover depicting one of the insects that is featured in the issue. We are also implementing a number of other innovations. The table of contents on the website will provide concise introductions to each article with eye-catching illustrations. We shall also highlight one article in each issue as the ‘Editor's choice’. In the course of 2018 we intend to evaluate these new initiatives and decide which to continue.
Expansion of the editorial board
The editorial board is very important for promoting the journal. We have recently expanded the editorial board and we are welcoming the new members Einat Zchori-Fein (Newe Ya'ar, Israel), Antonio Biondi (Catania, Italy), Gerhard Gries (Burnaby, BC, Canada), and Kongming Wu (CAAS, China) as of 1 January 2018, and we expect to add more members during the year.
Changes in the associate editors’ team
David Raubenheimer (Sydney, Australia) and Michael Stout (Baton Rouge, LA, USA) have been our review editors since 2005. They have been very dedicated and have done an enormous amount of work for the journal during all these years, for which we would like to sincerely thank them. As of 1 January 2018, our associate editors Marc Rhainds (Fredericton, NB, Canada) and Nico Desneux (Sophia Antipolis, France) will take over as review editors. To our delight, David and Mike have agreed to stay on as regular associate editors.
We will continue to give our best to Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata and are looking forward to this special anniversary year.
