ChemInform Abstract

The title compounds (IV) and (VI) are synthesized hydrothermally. As revealed by single crystal XRD (IV) crystallizes in the triclinic space group Pequation image with Z = 1 and (VI) in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4. The structure of (IV) is composed of 1 [(UO2)3(IO3)4O2] 2- chains formed by edge-sharing UO7 pentagonal bipyramids and UO6 octahedra. (VI) consists of one-dimensional 1 [(UO2)2(IO3)2O2] 2- ribbons formed via edge-sharing of distorted UO7 pentagonal bipyramids. In both compounds the iodate groups occur in both bridging and monodentate binding modes. The K+ or Ba2+ cations separate the chains or ribbons in these compounds forming bonds with terminal oxygen atoms from the iodate ligands.
