A new, efficient and practical method for the synthesis of disubstituted dihydro benzopyrans by the one-pot cyclocondensation of salicylaldehydes with acetal (II) using a catalytic amount of iodine is presented. The mild reaction conditions, operational simplicity, clean reaction products, and inexpensive reagents are the advantages over other procedures.
