Title compounds are prepared by Bu3SnH mediated cyclization of o-(benzyloxy)aryl halogenides and subsequent oxidation. The direct synthesis by cyclization of o-(benzoyloxy)aryl halogenides fails due to preferred trans conformation of the ester.
