ChemInform Abstract

Tributyltin radical mediated cyclization of carbohydrate-derived acrylates such as (II), (IV), and (VII), followed by acidic destannylation affords cis- and trans-fused bicyclic ethers of various ring sizes. The versatility of this approach is highlighted by the iterative expansion of product (VIIIa) to give tricycle (IX) in moderate overall yield.
