ChemInform Abstract

The title compounds are prepared by solid state reaction of Al(OH)3 and A1H2PO4 (A1: Na, K, NH4) or A2NO3 (A2: Rb, Tl) in air at 700—900 °C. Single crystal XRD results are reported for K3Al2P3O12 (orthorhombic, space group Pna21, Z = 4), Rb3Al2P3O12 (orthorhombic, Cmc21, 4), and Tl3Al2P3O12 (Pna21, 4). The latter compound is a rare example of an oxide possessing Al exclusively in trigonal bipyramidal coordination. In the other compounds, Al is present in tetrahedral coordination. All compounds have three-dimensional anionic frameworks with channels occupied by the A+ ions.
